Plenty of businesses have a good-looking website that never produces enquiries. Here are the most common reasons, and the practical fixes that make the biggest difference.
A website that looks professional but never produces enquiries is one of the most common problems we see. The good news: the causes are usually few, and most of them can be fixed without a full rebuild.
1. Visitors can't tell what you do in five seconds
Most visitors decide within seconds whether to stay. If your homepage headline is vague — "Excellence in everything we do" — they leave. Your first screen should answer three questions: what you do, who it's for, and what to do next.
- Write a headline that names the outcome you deliver.
- Add a one-sentence explanation underneath.
- Put one clear call to action above the fold.
2. There is no obvious next step
Every page should lead somewhere. If a visitor reads your services page and finds no button, form or phone number, they will not go looking for one. Add a consistent call to action — "Book a consultation", "Get a quote" — to the header and the end of every page.
3. The site is slow or awkward on mobile
A large share of business research now starts on a phone. Heavy images, pop-ups and tiny buttons all cost you enquiries. Test your site on your own phone, then run it through Google's PageSpeed Insights and fix the biggest issues first.
4. Nobody is finding it
A website without traffic can't convert. At minimum, make sure the site is verified in Google Search Console, has a sitemap submitted, and that each page has a clear title and description. For local and niche searches, a steady rhythm of helpful content does more than any single trick.
5. Enquiries are arriving — but getting lost
Sometimes the website works and the follow-up doesn't. Form submissions land in an unchecked inbox or wait days for a reply. Connecting your forms to a CRM, with an instant acknowledgement and a reminder for your team, often lifts results more than any design change.
The fastest wins usually come from clearer messaging, one strong call to action, and faster follow-up — not a brand-new website.
